After filming three Pirates of the Caribbean movies together, director Gore Verbinski and Golden Globe winner Johnny Depp are back together again. You may not recognize Depp this time, though. In Rango, which can perhaps best be described as an 1)animated spaghetti western comedy, Depp plays a chameleon with an identity crisis. Big-name supporting actors include Isla Fisher, Alfred Molina, Harry Dean Stanton and Timothy Olyphant.
The film opens with Rango living in a terrarium with his toy friends. To pass the time, he spends his days writing, directing and starring in his own 2)theatrical productions. One day, travelling in a truck on a lonely desert road, his terrarium is accidentally thrown out of the back, and he finds himself in a 3)harsh environment where life centers around finding water and 4)shelter.

spaghetti western 其實和義大利美食無關，而是指一種稱為「義式西部片」的電影類型，也稱為 Italo-western，起源於西部片盛行的 1960 年代，導演和製片清一色是義大利人，演員則多半來自義大利和西班牙，拍攝地點也以西班牙為主。義式西部片通常看不出正反派，呈現極簡與反英雄主義，內容充斥大量槍戰暴力場面，製作成本低廉，且為了在不同國家放映，義式西部片也常有不同的配音版本。經典代表作為克林伊斯威特 (Clint Eastwood) 擔綱演出的《荒野大鏢客》The Good, the Bad and the Ugly。
